From the Coach - Adam Beakley

I would like to express how proud I am to be coaching the RANAFA Women’s team for the next 3 years. I would also like to acknowledge the hard work of LCDR Elizabeth Quinn and her team who have worked tirelessly over the previous years. Your teams dedication in striving for excellence and in creating a professional environment for the team to succeed is second to none. Thank you.

Moving into 2020 and beyond I am excited to have this opportunity to help build on the past success and help develop and nurture the future of pussers footy. I would like to welcome CPO Rohan Jennings (Jenno) to the assistant coaching position. Jenno has coached RANAFA previously and was at the helm the last time we lifted the cup. I look forward to working with him and I know his experience and determination will help guide us over the journey.

A warm welcome also goes to our Team Manager Petty Officer Kim Thomson (aka Kimmy T). Kimmy T played RANAFA from 2006-2013 and was a member of many Leadership groups, Vice-Captain for Navy and a Co-Captain for the ADF team. Kimmy’s experience as a player and coach will be invaluable to our group and I look forward to working with her as we move forward.

My coaching philosophy has continually developed over a number of years and has had proven success in a team environment. I believe team success comes from creating a positive, inclusive, organised, professional and committed environment. When all of these qualities are in play, the team is best placed to achieve the following Goals and Values:

a.       Develop and Foster relationships with players and coaches

b.       Develop and Foster the RANAFA culture

c.       Develop football skills and good habits

d.       Develop game sense and good habits

e.       Represent RANAFA and the ADF with pride

As we move into 2020, I challenge you all to get on board the pussers footy train. Opportunities that are now available for all of you to train or play at local level are abundant and we need you to be making the most of these. Now more than ever, we are recruiting Women that have played AFL for a number of years and the skill levels have increased which is making selection of a final squad harder than it has ever been.

I look forward to working with you all in 2020 and beyond.

“There is an old saying about the strength of the wolf is the pack, and I think there is a lot of truth to that. On a football team, it’s not the strength of the individual players, but it is the strength of the unit and how they all function together.” Bill Belichick
